Special Forces group to dedicate chapter to fallen Inexperienced Beret


POST FALLS — An activation and dedication ceremony for Kootenai County’s first chapter of the Special Forces Affiliation will start at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 11 on the Idaho Nationwide Guard Armory in Put up Falls. The general public is invited to attend.

Retired Sgt. Maj. Stephen Durfee helped discovered the native chapter and serves as its vp. The chapter is devoted to the reminiscence of fallen Inexperienced Beret soldier Sgt. Maj. Bradly D. Conner, who grew up in Coeur d’Alene and died in Could 2007 whereas serving in assist of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

The Special Forces Affiliation has chapters worldwide. Kootenai County’s first chapter, No. 43, joins a second Idaho chapter, No. 69 in Boise, Durfee stated.

“We promote the well being, morale and welfare for the Special Forces, previous, current and future,” Durfee stated.

Conner enlisted within the Army in June 1987 as an ammunition specialist. After primary coaching in Alabama, Conner was assigned to the 515th Ordinance Firm, Redstone Arsenal. In 1992, he volunteered for Special Forces coaching. Conner served throughout 4 deployments in Iraq and in Could 2007, he sustained wounds whereas conducting a fight patrol exterior Al-Hillah, Iraq. Conner died Could 9, 2007.

Conner is survived by his spouse, Cynthia, a son and two daughters, of Fort Lewis, Wash., his dad and mom, William and Kay Conner, of Coeur d’Alene, and two brothers and a sister.

Conner’s awards and decorations embody: the Bronze Star Medal Second Oak Leaf Cluster, Purple Coronary heart, Meritorious Service Medal Second Oak Leaf Cluster, Joint Service Commendation Medal Second Oak Leaf Cluster, Joint Meritorious Unit Award, Good Conduct Medal Fifth Award, Nationwide Protection Service Medal Second Award, Kosovo Marketing campaign Medal, International Struggle on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Armed Forces Service Medal, Navy Excellent Volunteer Service Medal and others.

Initially based in 1964, at Fort Bragg in North Carolina, the fraternal group serves as a voice for the Special Forces Group, with a concentrate on public service. The SFA offers assist, manpower, funds and seeks to teach the general public and its members on Special Forces historical past, current contributions and the longer term growth of the US Army Special Forces. SFA offers assets to help Special Forces items to make sure they’re adequately manned and geared up.
