The Special Action Force is the National Mobile Unit of the Philippine National Police founded by Fidel V. Ramos. It is formed along the lines of the British Army (SAS) Special Air Service, but with different recruitment and selection procedures.
As of 2013, the SAF’s command structure consist of the following:
- Headquarters
- Combat Support Unit
- Recon Battalion
- Three Special Action Force Battalions
The missions of the Special Action Force can vary from Counter-Terrorist operation in urban and rural areas, commando type unconventional warfare, search and rescue operations, civil disturbance management and have a rapid deployment force ready and capable to strike anytime and anywhere in the country
