The Fifth Fleet is a numbered fleet of the US Navy. It has been answerable for naval forces within the Persian Gulf, Crimson Sea, Arabian Sea, and components of the Indian Ocean since 1995 after a 48-year hiatus. It shares a commander and headquarters with U.S. Naval Forces Central Command (NAVCENT) in Bahrain. As of seven December 2018, the commander of the fifth Fleet is Vice Admiral James J. Malloy. Fifth Fleet/NAVCENT is a part command of, and studies to, U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM).
