Protection Division officers have launched the title of the airman who died in a non-combat associated incident in Niger on Feb. 18.
Employees Sgt. Dennis F. Melton, 27, of Waverly, Tenn., was deployed with the 768th Expeditionary Air Base Squadron at Air Base 101 in Niamey on the time of his loss of life. Melton had been on lively responsibility since December 2016.
The incident remains to be underneath investigation.
Melton was assigned to the twentieth Safety Forces Squadron, Shaw Air Power Base, South Carolina, and arrived there Sept. 1, 2017.
“The passing of Employees Sergeant Dennis Melton is felt all through the whole Defender household,” stated Maj. Kevin Collett, twentieth Safety Forces Squadron commander. “Our hearts are heavy as we grieve with Dennis’ family and friends; we ship our deepest condolences for his or her irreplaceable loss.”
Throughout Employees Sgt. Melton’s time within the Air Power, he acquired an Achievement Medal, 3 Meritorious Unit Awards, a Humanitarian Service Medal, and the Small Arms Professional Marksmanship ribbon.
