Greater than 17 years in the past, the U.S. Navy christened the primary of a brand new class of warship designed to function in near-shore environments. The so-called Littoral Fight Ships or LCS could be quick and agile, able to countering Twenty first-century coastal threats resembling missile-firing boats, small submarines, and mines.
Littoral fight ships are akin to corvettes present in different navies.
The Freedom class and the Independence class are the 2 LCS variants.
