Watch our timelapse of HMS Bulwark docking in Catania.
Having carried out its largest rescue thus far, HMS Bulwark is returning to sea on standby to avoid wasting extra migrants.
The operation over the weekend noticed seven boats rescued by Bulwark, two extra by the Italians, with the migrants then loaded onto the Royal Navy ship destined for Catania.
The ship’s firm of 450 has labored tirelessly since deploying on Operation Weald in April – from the cooks cooking for the migrants to the Royal Marines working the touchdown craft that rescue them. And when the migrants are onboard they’re watched over by the crew in four-hour shifts.
