F-35 Crash Off Carl Vinson Is the Ship’s fifth Main Mishap in 2 Months

An F-35C Lightning II fighter suffered “a touchdown mishap” on the deck of the USS Carl Vinson within the South China Sea on Monday. It left seven sailors injured whereas the pilot safely ejected and was later recovered, the Navy confirmed, marking the fifth main mishap aboard the deployed provider since late November.

Between Nov. 22 and Tuesday, Provider Air Wing 2 reported 4 different main incidents involving plane. Naval Security Heart information exhibits that the primary incident, which occurred Nov. 22, was an in-flight engine fireplace aboard an F/A-18E Tremendous Hornet that was capable of land efficiently.

Two days later, a MH-60R Seahawk helicopter “unexpectedly” misplaced its sonar dipping tools whereas conducting a coaching flight. The third incident occurred Nov. 29 and concerned one other F/A-18E Tremendous Hornet. That point, a problem with the aircraft’s left engine pressured its pilot to close it down and land utilizing the opposite, good engine. When requested concerning the string of mishaps, Navy spokesman Lt. Nicholas Lingo mentioned, “All 5 incidents stay below investigation, and we can not communicate to any sample till the investigation concludes.”

Lingo mentioned that the F-35, which is assigned to Provider Air Wing 2, suffered its mishap Monday whereas the Carl Vinson was conducting routine flight operations within the South China Sea. He added that “extra particulars and the reason for the in-flight mishap is below investigation.”

Based on the Navy, the pilot was rescued by a U.S. navy helicopter and is in secure situation. Of the seven injured sailors, three required medevac to a medical remedy facility in Manila, Philippines, and 4 had been handled aboard the plane provider. Lingo mentioned that two of the evacuated sailors are in secure situation; one is in important situation. The incidents come at a time when the Vinson is taking part in dual-carrier operations, together with the USS Abraham Lincoln Strike Group, that started Sunday.
