Matt Koetting served in the USA Marine Corps as an assaultman, machine gunner, joint terminal assault controller (JTAC), Marine Corps teacher of water survival (MCIWS) and Reconnaissance Marine. Matt served with 1st Battalion third Marine Regiment throughout two deployments to Iraq and one to Afghanistan.
Throughout his deployment to Afghanistan, Matt took half in Operation Moshtarak which was meant to wrest management of town of Marjah from Taliban and rebel forces. Throughout the operation, he was severely wounded by an improvised explosive system (IED). Throughout restoration, Matt underwent greater than a dozen surgical procedures to restore injury brought on by the IED blast and was awarded the Purple Coronary heart medal by President Barack Obama.
Matt isn’t one to be held again by adversity, so he utilized to display for one of many hardest jobs within the Marine Corps, Reconnaissance Man. He accomplished Primary Reconnaissance Course and was assigned to the legendary 1st Reconnaissance Battalion at Camp Pendleton, CA. Whereas serving as a recon Marine, Matt attended the US Army Airborne College at Ft. Benning, GA and the Tactical Air Management Occasion faculty at Naval Amphibious Base Coronado, amongst others.
After finishing his remaining deployment as a part of the eleventh Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), Matt realized his ongoing points with the accidents he suffered throughout his IED blast would make him a legal responsibility to his group and he was medically retired from the Marine Corps.
