Cheyenne’s namesake submarine, the USS Cheyenne (SSN-773), has been awarded the 2022 Battle Effectiveness Award, the metropolis proudly introduced Thursday.
The coveted award, generally referred to as the Battle “E”, is awarded yearly to the small variety of United States Navy ships, submarines, aviation, and different items that win their battle effectiveness competitors.
“It’s crucial Command Excellence Award a ship can earn,” town stated.
“Competitors for this ornament is fierce, and our namesake has earned the award a number of instances in her lifetime of service,” town added.
Cheyenne, the final Los Angeles-class submarine constructed by Newport News Shipbuilding in Virginia, was commissioned on Sept. 13, 1996, with Commander Peter H. Ozimik in command.
She transferred to her residence port of Pearl Harbor, Hawaii in 1998.
“We’re pleased with the officers, chiefs, and crew of our submarine and congratulate her for being the most effective,” town stated.
