Two U.S. Navy ships supplied emergency help to a stranded motor vessel within the Gulf of Aden, July 18-21.
USNS Wally Schirra (T-AKE 8) first responded to the mayday name issued by Türkiye-flagged motor vessel Anatolian, July 18, whereas conducting routine operations within the space. Wally Schirra supplied Anatolian engineering help in addition to meals and water provides for its 14 crewmembers over three days.
USS Lewis B. Puller (ESB-3) arrived on scene July 20 to switch Wally Schirra and help Anatolian till an extra help vessel arrived. The U.S. Navy concluded its help the next day.
Lewis B. Puller is an expeditionary sea base and Wally Schirra is a dry cargo and ammunition ship. Each ships are at present working within the Center East area in help of U.S. fifth Fleet.
The U.S. fifth Fleet working space encompasses 2.5 million sq. miles of water space, together with the Arabian Sea, Crimson Sea, Gulf of Oman, Gulf of Aden, Arabian Gulf and components of the Indian Ocean.
