FORT GORDON, Ga.— The U.S. navy Thursday recognized a soldier killed by a lightning strike at a Georgia base as a 41-year-old Army reservist assigned to a medical staff that performs emergency surgical procedure in fight zones.
Sgt. 1st Class Michael D. Clark of Bolton, Connecticut, served for 22 years on energetic responsibility and as a reservist and had deployed 4 instances to Iraq and Afghanistan, the U.S. Army Reserve stated in an announcement. It stated Clark died and 9 different troopers have been injured Wednesday when lightning struck the group throughout a coaching train at Fort Gordon in Augusta, Georgia.
Clark was rushed to the Army submit’s hospital together with the injured troopers. All 9 survivors have been in good situation Thursday, the Army Reserve stated.
Clark and eight of the injured troopers have been assigned to the 933rd Ahead Resuscitative Surgical Firm, which performs emergency surgical procedure and different pressing remedy on wounded troopers in fight. The unit relies in Paducah, Kentucky.
“Sgt. 1st Clark was a loving husband, father, and a Patriot who deeply cherished our nation,” the corporate’s commander, Maj. Stephen W. Rhinehart, stated in an announcement. “His management, data, expertise, and love for his fellow troopers was immeasurable.”
Troopers from the 933rd have been visiting Fort Gordon for an annual coaching train for medical models to enhance their expertise within the discipline.
